PLASTIC CONTAINERS

PLASTIC CONTAINERS

Most plastics fall into several categories, according to their chemical characteristics, among these care polietilena de joasă și înaltă densitate și polipropilena.
Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is used for soft, flexible packaging (like large and strong shopping bags), while high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is used in most hard plastic containers, from shampoo tubes to ice cream boxes and plastic cans; soft drinks and water bottles are the exception – these are made of PET.

How are they recycled?

Both HDPE and LDPE are recycled like PET bottles. The difference is the end product: these containers are recycled into raw matter for long-lasting plastic products – tables, chairs, benches, trash cans, buckets, rulers, etc. Recycled LDPE can also be used in the making of plastic film and wood-plastic composite lumber.

What are the advantages of recycling?

Like any other plastic, HDPE and LDPE pose similar environmental problems: they are corrosion resistant, are widely used and a major pollutant. Another reason the SIGUREC recycling system is unique in Romania is because it also collects for recycling these types of plastics that other recyclers refuse.

What can I recycle?

Any kind of plastic container, emptied and, if possible, washed. Look for a number inside a triangle of circling arrows, printed on the label or pressed into the bottom of the container – either 2 (HDPE), or 4 (LDPE)
